Norfolk’s coastline is constantly shaped by the North Sea, revealing new discoveries with each storm.
Its soft clay cliffs make it the best place in the UK to study Ice Age geology—and we have the fastest eroding coastline in Europe. Fossils and artefacts can appear and vanish quickly, making archaeology here a race against time.
This “Deep History Coast” has uncovered some of Britain’s most important finds: Happisburgh, the oldest archaeological site in northern Europe, and West Runton, yielded the UK’s most complete mammoth skeleton.
