Museum volunteers

The museum was founded in the late 1980s by a group of dedicated volunteers and while we now benefit from the services of a well-experienced professional manager, it still relies on voluntary effort for its efficient operation.

Our structure consists of a Board of Directors, responsible for the operation of the museum, and a Charitable Trust, responsible for the care and development of the Museum’s collection. The Trust Members are involved in work with the collection and its care, the mounting of exhibitions, and related activities. Members may become eligible for election as Trustees.

Volunteering with us

Most of our volunteers work around three hours per week on the entry desk/shop, or as gallery guides. Museum shop, Front-of-house and gallery stewards are always needed. There might be other areas of work if you have a particular skill, you can also always pop in and see us, have a chat, and find out more.

If you are interested in joining our volunteer team, please download the volunteer booklet and fill in the form. Please contact us at the Museum if you would like more information. You can also read our Privacy Policy here.
